How We Socialize our Puppies

Early socialization of puppies is extremely important. During the first 13 weeks of a young puppy's life, the exposure they have to various conditions and frequent contact with humans is absolutely necessary for them to be emotionally stable as an adult dog.

Our pups are born in a whelping box in our home. We assist the mother dog with birthing.

When the pups are two to three days old they travel with us every weekday morning to our office where we have a second whelping box. The pups are exposed to human sound and scent. Our employees and their kids come in and hold and pet the pups. When the pups are three weeks old they have their eyes open and are being fed puppy chow and can now walk.

We have a fenced-in area connected to our office where the pups spend their day. Now people can play with the pups and the pups learn to relate to people.

At five weeks of age we take the pups to a section of state game land where they learn to explore the field and where we introduce them to water and get them swimming. We also fire a blank gun when the pups are running in the field so they are used to the sound of gunfire.

Every night the pups go home with us. At this age they live in kennels in our fenced yard. Every night after dinner Blanche and I spend an hour or so in the yard playing and holding the pups.

When our pups are ready to go home at eight weeks, they are completely socialized, they love people, and they are bold pups.

Our breeding program is based on breeding German wirehaired pointers that have outstanding wild bird hunting abilities. All of our dogs hunt a variety of upland birds and waterfowl. Our dogs are also bred and socialized to be part of the family. They make ideal family dogs and companions.
